Sushi workshop at Taste of Okura in Amsterdam

One of my Birthday presents from my love this year was the sushi workshop at the Hotel Okura in Amsterdam. I was very excited since it was the first time I have made sushi EVER! It was a great experience and I would like to share with you a couple of photos from the workshop. Definitely recommended!

The Okura hotel has 3 restaurants, the two Michelin star Ciel Bleu Restaurant of Executive chef Onno Kokmeijer, that can boast great views from the 23rd floor, the Serre restaurant that has an international menu, the traditional Japanese restaurant Yamazato which has 1 Michelin star, the Michelin star teppanyaki restaurant Sazanka and their breakfast restaurant Le Camelia. 

Taste of Okura is lead by a Japanese Michelin star sushi chef so you know you’re working with the best. First of all we went into the wine room while we waited for the other guests to arrive and the chef to sharpen his knife, we were then taken into the kitchen to begin learning all the hidden tips to the art of sushi making, learning and putting the sushi together was great fun but the humor from the chef is also very entertaining and he explains in detail each step of the sushi making process. One interesting fact we were told is that each sushi chef will have their own way they like to prepare the rice used for making sushi, Hotel Okura prefers theirs with a little extra sugar.

At the workshop we made maki with tuna, nigiri with different types of fish and California rolls. The great thing about this workshop was the fact that the products we used were excellent quality.  Every day, Okura hotel gets fresh fish straight from the port of Rotterdam!

Во время мастер класса мы приготовили маки с тунцом, нигири с разными видами рыбы и роллы Калифорния. Больше всего нас поразило качество продуктов, которые использовались для приготовления суши. Каждый день в рестораны отеля поставляется свежая рыба из порта Роттердама.
After the workshop the sushi we made was served for us to eat. Before we started eating, the chef explained to us the right way of eating sushi and maki. When eating nigiri, you are not supposed to dip the rice in the soy sauce, only the fish. At the dinner we also got to try Japanese sake from a special cup. 

Even though we had a lot of sushi during the dinner, there was still a lot to take home (which was impossible to eat). Unfortunately, the chef said that the sushi should be eaten on the same day.
