Exploring Lake Garda

This summer my mother and I spent 1 week on the beautiful Lake Garda in Italy. I have already been to Lake Garda a few years ago and was very excited to come back. This time we decided to stay in the north part of the lake – in the town called Riva del Garda. I have heard that this part of lake Garda is very different to the southern part, that is more flat compared to the north, surrounded by the mountains. We stayed in the Du Lac et Du Parc resort – beautiful hotel located in the park with access to the lake. If you find the water in the lake too cold, you can also stay by one of the pools of the resort.

While staying in Riva del Garda, we rented a car to visit all the beautiful places in the northern part of the lake.

My favorite town was definitely Limone Sul Garda. I have seen many photos of this place on the internet, but it was so much more beautiful in real life than I expected. Everywhere you look in Limone sul Garda, you see lemons! Souvenir shops are full of everything with lemons: towels, kitchenware, limocello 🙂 Even the house number tiles are decorated with lemons! While we were walking around Limone sul Garda, it started to rain heavily, but it didn’t make the experience any worse.

The next day we discovered another another beautiful town called Malcesine. The main attraction of Malcesine is its castle located on the lake front that offers stunning views of lake Garda. Another thing you can do in Malcesine, is take the cable car to the top of Monte Baldo. On the day that we wanted to take the cable car, the line was just crazy so we decided to skip it. But I would definitely like to go there next time!

Another cute little town we visited is Torbole that can be accessed on foot from Riva del Garda. We walked along the lake until we reached our destination. Torbole is pretty small, but you can sit in one of the cafes along the water and enjoy some great views of the lake.

When I was looking for places to visit in the north of Lake Garda I found some images of another lake – with the stunning water of turquoise color. This lake is called lake Tenno and is 20 minutes away by car from Riva del Garda. On the way to Lake Tenno we stopped is the beautiful medieval town called Borgo di Canale and walked around it for a little bit. If you are in the area, definitely make sure to visit both spots!

On the last day of our holiday we decided to drive to Gardone Riviera – a town located on the western side of the lake to have dinner in the Casino restaurant. It was definitely worth the drive and I will always remember this wonderful dinner. The restaurant is located on the lake and has a beautiful terrace overlooking the water. I loved the

  • Lake Garda is so beautiful! I’m going on vacation every out there! I love it! We staying every year at Peschiera in the south of the lake, but last year we did a scooter tour around the lake for the first time. Riva and Limone are prettier than the south!
