Exploring the Netherlands: Utrecht

In my opinion, Utrecht is one of the most beautiful cities in the Netherlands and is a great place for a day trip! Since I moved from Utrecht to Amsterdam a lot of new trendy places opened there. A few weeks ago my friend Julie and I went to Utrecht to check them out! I was really surprised to see how many great places Utrecht now has and got a little bit frustrated that they were not there when I lived there. At the end of this post you can find the list of my favorite places in Utrecht that I recommend visiting.

На мой взгляд, Утрехт – один из самых красивых городов Голландии! Если вы остановились в Амстердаме и у вас есть свободный день, то я очень советую посетить этот чудесный город. С того момента, как я переехала из Утрехта в Амстердам, здесь открылось очень много новых мест и несколько недель назад мы с подругой отправились их изучать и оценивать. After arriving in Utrecht we first went to the new café called Gys which is located in the city center, next to the Neude square. We really loved the interior and the ambiance of the place, I also really love the turqoiuse color of the building! We had a coffee and a delicious brownie with walnuts that I totally recommend (I am not a big fan of chocolate desserts, but this one was yummy!). Since I used to live in Utrecht, I wanted to show Julie my favorite parts of town. I showed her the library of the Utrecht University where I used to spend hours writing my thesis. This library is one of the most beautiful libraries I have seen.

Приехав в Утрехт мы в первую очередь направились в кафе Gys, которое находится в самом центре города на улице Voorstraat недалеко от площади Neude. Кафе это оказалось очень приятным, больше всего мне понравился его цвет – мой любимый бирюзовый! Мы выпили кофе с очень вкусным брауни с грецкими орехами и отправились дальше. Тк я раньше жила в Утрехте, мне хотелось рассказать Юле побольше про этот чудесный город. Мы прошлись по Voorstraat и свернули на Janskerhof, где находится библиотека Утрехтского университета и я вспоминала о том, как проводила здесь часы за написанием диплома.

After that we walked to the main landmark of the city – Utrecht cathedral and Dom tower. After the earthquake, a part of the cathedral was destroyed and it separated the tower. The tower itself is the symbol of the city and also the tallest tower of the Netherlands! P.s. At the Bond en Smolders bakery (my favorite baker in town) you can get delicious cookies in the form of the Dom tower.

После этого мы отправились к главной достопримечательности города – собору и башне Dom. После землетрясение часть собора была разрушена и таким образом башня оказалась отделена от самого собора. Именно эта особенность делает башню главным символом города. В кафе Bond en Smolders (самой вкусной кондитерской города!) кстати продают очень вкусные печенья в виде этой самой башни.

Another beautiful building located on the Dom square is the oldest building of Utrecht University, the place where all the students receive their diplomas after graduating from the university. The building is beautiful on the outside and looks like Hogwarts inside!

На площади где располагается собор и башня, так же находится самое старинное здание Утрехтского университета, где мне вручали диплом бакалавра. Здание очень красивое снаружи, а внутри и вовсе напоминает Хогвартс! На этой же площади находится мое самое любимое место в городе – внутренний дворик утрехтского собора. Это по-настоящему магическое место!

After doing a little bit of sightseeing we have decided to go for lunch to Broei, which is situated on the other side of town. We walked along the beautiful Oudegracht (Old canal) – the only canal (that I know) in the Netherlands where you can walk along the water. On the way to Broei we stopped at KEEK bakery to buy some fresh bread. It is impossible to leave this place with empty hands!

После осмотра достопримечательностей мы отправились в кафе Broei, которое находится на другом конце города и мы решили пройтись вдоль канала Oudegracht. Главный канал города – Oudegracht или старый канал – очень живописное место. Особенность этого канала в том, что у самого уровня воды располагаются кафе и рестораны. Ни в одном из других городов Голландии я такого не видела! По дороге в Broei мы зашли в кондитерскую de keuken van KEEK, где продается свежая выпечка, печенье и другие вкусности! Выйти оттуда с пустыми руками невозможно!

After walking through the city we finally ended up at Broei – a great lunch spot on Oosterkade. I loved the interior of the place and my healthy salad was delicious!

После прогулки по городу мы пообедали в очень милом и уютном кафе Broei, расположенном на набережной Oosterkade. Мой салат с булгуром, свеклой и козьим сыром оказался не только очень вкусным, но и полезным!

The next stop was a really unusual coffee place located in the tiny former bridge watcher’s house! You can get a cup of coffee or buy some of the antique pieces displayed inside. In any case, just come in to have a look!

По дороге обратно в центр города мы зашли в очень интересное место – маленькое кафе и магазин, расположенный в бывшем домика охранника моста! Внутри будки – всего несколько столиков, где можно выпить кофе или чай и интересные предметы декора, которые можно там же приобрести.

The final stop of the day for us was the best coffee place in town – The Village coffee. We ordered a cup of great coffee and were watching people passing by and coming in. The atmosphere in this place is great and the people are really nice too. It was a perfect spot to end our day in Utrecht!

Нашей последней остановкой стало кафе The Village Coffee – одно из самых лучших кофе мест во всей Голландии. Мы сели у окна, заказали по flat white и наблюдали за прохожими. Отличное завершение дня!
